There are some excursions from Varadero (and other resorts) that will give you a taste. The rural/small town areas are the most “Cuban”, but they are hard to explore. Worthy mentions are Santa Clara and Remedios. Urban highlights in Cuba for me were Old Havana, Cienfuegos and Trinidad. Varadero bus station in Google Maps (copy paste): 4PVM+RW Varadero, Cuba Getting to Havana from Varadero is relatively easy, so my suggestion would be to swallow your pride, book an all inclusive beach vacation for Varadero and head off to Havana on day two (or 3 or 4). If you book a room in Havana, they will provide transportation from the Varadero airport. Generally speaking, much cheaper to book hotel+flight with Sunwing or AirTransat. Are you dying of a terminal disease? If not, and I realize Havana-Santiago-Jamaice might seem logical, the way to do it from Toronto is one trip to Varadero/Havana, one trip to Santiago and one trip to Jamaica. ![]()
